When updating my “Top 10 Most Photographed Senior Photoshoot Locations in Pittsburgh” blog, I realized there’s a lot of room to spotlight some truly unique spots. If you’re someone who wants a senior photoshoot that stands out and feels different, you’re in the right place!
From the beginning of my senior photography journey, I’ve made it a point to ensure that each session feels individualized. While popular spots like Mellon Park are stunning and can definitely be part of the vision, I also love working with clients who are looking to bring something fresh and personal to their photos. Whether it’s adding a personal touch to a traditional spot or seeking something more unique, I’m all about creating something that’s as special as you are.
For some, a classic location might be perfect, but we can always add a twist. A favorite record store, or a quirky little spot that’s meaningful to you, can turn a typical shoot into something extra fun. Whether it’s a local bookstore or an old-school arcade, adding a personal favorite gives your photos a unique touch.
You can’t talk about unique senior photo shoot locations in Pittsburgh without mentioning Randyland. This colorful, funky spot adds a lot of personality to your session. If your main location is near like the Mexican War Streets, we can make a plan to incorporate this quirky location.
While some Pittsburgh locations don’t typically allow professional photography, there are always creative ways to work with the rules. Whether it’s a museum or an off-limits spot, I’d love to brainstorm with you on how we can make it happen—sometimes a little creativity is all it takes to get the perfect shot!
Take, for example, a recent shoot where the senior knew my cleint wanted something different. She sent me inspiration photos from Pinterest, and we worked together to come up with the idea of shooting on the iconic Pittsburgh trolley. It was such a fun way to kick off the session! We then finished the evening at a more popular location, like the Strip District, to add that urban vibe. I’ll blog this whole session eventually because it was one of the most unique senior shoots I’ve ever done and it truly was a collaboration between me and my client. I would love to do more shoots like this.
If you’re open to exploring new areas, sometimes we just need to drive a bit further to find a hidden gem. On another shoot, we came across a gorgeous mural in the city and spent time capturing the vibrant colors. Just a 45-minute drive away, we found a second unique location with a floral, landscape vibe that perfectly complemented the first spot.
One of my absolute favorite things to do is to take a walk through downtown Pittsburgh or Oakland near the University of Pittsburgh. There, we can discover alleyways, urban art, hidden corners, and interesting light that make for incredible, one-of-a-kind photos. It’s all about embracing the unexpected!
Other fun ideas for unique locations include libraries, bookstores, local cafés, or even vintage shops. The beauty of Pittsburgh is that there are countless creative spaces to explore, and we can find a location that’s as unique as you are.
I encourage you to think about the images and ideas you’ve seen that inspire you. I’m always pinning fun photo shoot ideas for inspiration. What other Unique Senior Photoshoot Locations in Pittsburgh can we dream up together? Whether it’s a cool location or a particular vibe, let me know! We can hop on a call, brainstorm, and turn your vision into reality. I can’t stress enough how important it is to me that your senior photoshoot is a collaborative effort.
