In 2021, I received a heartfelt request to photograph a multigenerational family, complete with their two beloved dogs, on the property they’ve called home for over a century. This unique opportunity struck a chord with me, as it represented more than just a photoshoot—it was a chance to preserve cherished memories and honor the family’s legacy.
Less than a year later, I received heartbreaking news: the grandmother (referred to as the cookie lady), a central figure in the family, had passed away:
“I wanted to reach out and thank you so much again for the beautiful images you captured of my family last fall. My grandma recently passed and the time I got to spend with her prior she spoke so highly of the photos, we reviewed all of them together again and she remembered so much of the process and spoke so highly of the fun she had that day. I cannot thank you enough for capturing my family, and my grandma, so that I have thread memories to remember.”
Receiving this message reaffirmed the significance of my role as a photographer. It reminded me that our work goes beyond simply taking pictures; it’s about creating timeless memories and capturing the essence of each family’s unique story. As time passes, these images become priceless treasures, preserving not only the faces but also the stories and experiences of those we hold dear. I have always had a special passion for photographing the elderly, especially in their homes—spaces that often haven’t changed in decades and hold a wealth of memories. These images serve as a bridge betwReen generations, connecting the past with the present and ensuring that precious memories are preserved for the future.
**The nickname “Cookie Lady” held a special significance; it stemmed from her habit of sitting in her mudroom, feeding the dogs “cookies” (treats) and sharing moments of joy and companionship with her beloved pets.
