Amidst the hustle and bustle of shooting sessions, editing photos, and juggling my boys’ hectic Fall sports schedule, I wanted to take a moment to pause and reflect on my recent trip to Seattle for Click and Company’s annual photography conference. If you weren’t already aware, I had the incredible opportunity to serve as an instructor for four shooting classes during the event. While in Seattle, I had the pleasure of photographing two lovely families amidst the iconic backdrop of Pike Place, as well as conducting two indoor maternity sessions (I wasn’t taking any chances with the unpredictable weather!).
We were fortunate with both family sessions, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the challenges I faced. Dealing with a three-hour time difference from Pittsburgh and battling serious jet lag made for some early mornings and long days. As an instructor, maintaining mental energy to be “on” throughout the event while also engaging with my clients and checking in on my students was undoubtedly challenging. Despite the hurdles, I found immense joy in the images I captured, the connections I made with fellow photographers, and the families I had the privilege of photographing. Additionally, finally meeting online friends in person and attending classes taught by incredibly talented instructors was truly inspiring.
Though it was tough leaving in the midst of my busiest month of the year, the experience was unequivocally worth it. Photography conferences always serve to rejuvenate and reignite my passion for the craft, and this trip was no exception. Taking an extra day after the conference to explore the city and venture over to Bainbridge Island was the perfect way to unwind and soak in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. As we sailed across the water, surrounded by the ethereal morning fog lifting from the landscape, I found myself overwhelmed with emotion. It was a moment of pure serenity and gratitude, a fitting conclusion to an unforgettable journey.
“there is so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I am seeing it all at once, and it is too much. My heart fills up like a balloon that is about to burst. And then I remember to relax. And stop trying to hold on to it. And then it flows through me like rain. And I can feel anything but gratitude for every moment of my stupid little life.”
Exactly how I felt in the moment.I truly am lucky to love my job and that it allows me to take more trips to see how beautiful this world is. I am really looking forward to traveling more.
I also rented a tilt shift lens and all of these Ferry images are taken with it. I am in love!

A little windy self portrait.
And here is just a sampling of the images I was able to capture while teaching! Enjoy! XO, Taryn
